NEVADA DIVERSITY & INCLUSION LIAISON INITIATIVE

Per Senate Bill 222, all state departments, divisions, and agencies that interact or communicate with minority groups -- which include marginalized racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, and people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex or any other nonheterosexual or cisgender orientation -- or offers programs and services that affect the groups identified above, must designate, to the extent practicable a Diversity and Inclusion Liaison (DIL). The primary role of the DIL is to function as a point of contact between their respective state entities and members of the minority group or minority-serving organizations (MSO) and ensure culturally responsive services are provided and made accessible to minority groups. The Nevada Diversity and Inclusion Liaison Initiative is a collaborative initiative between the Office of Minority Health and Equity (NOMHE), the Office of New Americans, the Commission of Minority Affairs, the Department of Human Resource Management, and High Sierra Area Health Education Center (AHEC). 

The Nevada Diversity and Inclusion Initiative aims to help orient DILs and better understand the communities and community-facing organizations they interact with through culturally responsive trainings provided throughout October 2024. The Training schedule is as follows:

• LGBTQ Cultural Competency Training: October 9th, 9 - 11 am

  • Taught by Ricardo Rubalcaba Paredes (High Sierra AHEC)

• People with Disabilities Cultural Competency Training: October 15th, 9 - 11 am

  • Taught by Ricardo Rubalcaba Paredes (High Sierra AHEC)

• Cultivating a Culture of Inclusivity: October 22nd, 9 - 11 am

  • Taught by Princette Bowling (NOMHE)

• Systemic Racism Competency Training: October 30th, 9 - 11 am 

  • Taught by Kimberly Smith (Dept. of Human Resource Management)
