When I first started my internship with High Sierra AHEC, I was simply grateful for the opportunity. Public health is such a broad field, and I was excited to learn about a side of it that I had not experienced before: healthcare workforce development.

hen I graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2024 with a degree in epidemiology, I only had one career pathway in mind: work in the health department with a government entity, track diseases, and make suggestions for policy change.

While summer often brings a change of pace for students, it is one of the busiest and most exciting times of the year at High Sierra AHEC. As classrooms quiet down and many take time to enjoy Nevada's beautiful summer season, our team is hard at work planning new opportunities that will continue to strengthen healthcare workforce pathways across our state.
