Building a Healthier Nevada, Together: A Look Back at Our Impact

Updated: Jul 15

At High Sierra AHEC, we believe in the power of community, collaboration, and education to transform healthcare from the ground up. As we share our Biennial Impact Report for FY23–25, we invite you to take a closer look at the progress we've made together in strengthening Nevada’s healthcare workforce.

Over the past two years, our team has worked tirelessly to grow opportunity, drive innovation, and deepen equity across the state—from inspiring 5th-grade students to envision a future in healthcare, to equipping graduate-level scholars with the tools to serve in underserved and rural communities.

Highlights include:

  • 1,476 students engaged through hands-on K–12 programs

  • 162 students certified as Community Health Workers (CHWs)

  • 35 undergraduate Ambassadors delivering nearly 1,700 hours of community service

  • $92,000 awarded in scholarships through ARPA-funded programs

  • Launch of Nevada's first statewide AHEC strategic plan, uniting all regional centers around a shared vision

  • Expansion of cultural competency training, reaching over 900 professionals across 20+ states

We also proudly became ambassadors of the Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative, connected CHW graduates directly to employment, and launched job-shadowing rotations with our Federally Qualified Health Center partners.

  • None of this would have been possible without the relentless dedication of our team and the strength of our partnerships. We wish to extend heartfelt thanks to:

  • Our amazing staff, whose energy and passion drive every program forward

  • Our board of directors, whose vision and governance ground our work

  • Our partners and funders, who share our commitment to building a more inclusive and prepared healthcare workforce

  • And a special thank you to Gregg Design Co. for their exceptional branding, creative direction, and illustration work that brought this publication to life.

We are excited for what lies ahead—and we remain committed to serving Nevada through bold, community-centered action.

Thank you for believing in our mission.

With gratitude, Andrea Gregg

CEO, High Sierra AHEC
