2026 is right around the corner, and with the promise of a new year comes exciting new trainings that the High Sierra AHEC team is currently building!
The High Sierra AHEC Team has been hard at work developing new training content for our existing Community Health Worker (CHW) and Nevada Cultural Competency (NVCC) programs. Through the generous support of different grants, our team is able to develop new content geared toward students seeking a CHW certification, medical providers understanding what it is to be culturally competent with the patients they serve, and targeted Opioid Use Disorder / Substance Use Disorder training.
Here is a glimpse of what to look forward to in 2026. Consider subscribing to our newsletter for monthly updates as well!
Molina - Medicaid Billing and Coding
This training is made possible by a grant from MolinaCares
This module will provide information on:
Scope of Practice and supervision of a CHW
Billing and Documentation training of NV Medicaid Services Manual Chapter 600
Practical Application and Case Studies
Employer and Supervisor Training - to better help employers onboard CHWs and understand Medicaid billing requirements
We are seeking Subject Matter Experts in the field of Nevada Medicaid billing and coding! Please see the 1-pager attached for more details on how you can help contribute to this.

Fund for Resilient Nevada (FRN) - Addressing Stigma and Discrimination with People Experiencing Substance Use / Opioid Use Disorder (SUD/OUD)
Through the generous support of the Fund for Resilient Nevada (FRN), our team is developing a training aimed at addressing discrimination, assumptions, and stigma in SUD/OUD care.
This training will be a guide for how CHWs can assist clients who are experiencing SUD or OUD in an empathetic, culturally sensitive approach.
Once finalized, this module will be included in both the CHW Youth (16+) in-person training and the CHW Adult Fee for Service asynchronous or in-person training.
Renown - Ethics and Best Practices for Behavioral and Addictions Professionals
With support from Renown’s Better Together Community Grants Program, our Master’s of Social Work intern, Kylie, is helping to develop an Ethics and Best Practices for Behavioral and Addictions Professionals training.
The purpose of this training is to expand NVCC training to support mental health professionals, including providers, case managers, social workers, and behavioral health professionals.
We aim to have this program ready for learners in January 2026. Please see the attached 1-pager for more information on how you can be involved in the development of this training.

Self-Paced Nevada Cultural Competency (NVCC) Training
NVCC works to create comprehensive training to medical providers, public health professionals, and community-based organizations to foster humility and proactive quality care for patients in Nevada.
The NVCC Cultural Competency training was previously offered as a 10-hour training but will now be offered as a 4-hour self-paced training. This is due to bill AB 267 passing in 2023, which ensures healthcare professionals receive training in cultural competency, diversity, equity, and inclusion. The bill also required that training is given as a specific requirement of 4 hours every two years, so NVCC is aiming to align the training to meet the state’s formal requirement.
The new training will be available to learners in early 2026.
Stay tuned for these exciting trainings next year!
